Russell Stannard is the founder of TeacherTrainingVideos.Com. A website that helps teachers incorporate technology into their teaching and learning. He is a previous winner of the Times Higher Educational ‘Outstanding idea in technology’, the British Council ‘Technology innovation award’ and the University of Westminster ‘Excellence in Teaching.’ He was previously a Principal Teaching Fellow at the University of Westminster and the University of Warwick. He is truly an international speaker, having presented and trained teachers in 44 countries. He now runs his own small educational consultancy business and has the BBC, Macmillan, Express Publishing, INTO, the British Council, Planeta DeAgostini, Pearson Education among his clients. He has published widely on the topic of technology in education and has been writing a column in the English Teaching Professional for 17 years. Just knowledge of a few key technologies can have a massive impact on the way a school can organise its teaching and learning. In this talk, Russell Stannard will focus on simple, free tools that can help organise your blended learning, communication with students and parents and even change the way you think about assessment. Russell has worked with schools all around the world both big and small and this highly practical talk should open up many new ideas around delivering of learning, marketing of schools and communication. In this workshop, the author will highlight how SMART phones or tablets can be used in the classroom to create formative assessment and group based learning activities. This will be a hands-on session with some fun activities. He will also highlight tools that can be used to encourage students to study vocabulary and develop their autonomy. This is a workshop based activity, so bring your SMART phones or tablets ( laptops can also be used).
Ewa Lewandowska graduated with an M.A. degree from the University of Warsaw, Faculty of Modern Languages. She has been specializing in teaching Business English since 2001. She started as a teacher, then also methodologist and coordinator, gathering a significant hands-on experience and expertise in teaching English as a foreign language across various functions in language schools and agencies. From 2013 she has been the Recruitment and Methodology Director for Future Centre Training Corporation, a Warsaw-based company providing innovative, customized language and soft skills training solutions to businesses. Her responsibilities include, among others: supervising the work of the recruitment and methodology team, visiting classes and providing feedback to teachers, examination of, and commenting on, language level assessment tools, representing the company at industry conferences, consultancy and workshops for business clients in the field of foreign language didactics, reviewing textbooks and other teaching and learning resources, cooperating with publishing houses, writing articles about teaching foreign languages. Ewa is also teaching Italian language through an e-learning platform at Lazarski University in Warsaw. The aim of the presentation is to familiarize the audience with changing trends in teaching General English in multinational corporations, with a focus on business or specialist communication. Over the past dozen or so years, HR departments, managers who determine training needs, and corporate students themselves have significantly changed their approach to language courses as a part of corporate and departmental training programmes. As a long-term lecturer, then senior teacher, and for several years a director of methodology and recruitment for a company being on the market since 2000 and serving more than 400 corporate clients, I would like to share my experiences related to the needs of students and teachers, and present the opportunities that In Company 3.0 series offers in terms of support for English language training in the corporate context. Using two specific cases: Jeronimo Martins (a leading food retailer) and Hebe (a health and beauty chain), I will present the potential of the series as a supporting tool for stationary courses, as well as in the Blended Learning environment.
